| 2. Push-ups: Maximum in one minute |
6. Box-step: Maximum in one minute |
3. Sit-ups: Maximum in one minute |
7. Shuttle run:40 yard timed event |
| 4. Jump rope: Maximum in one minute |
8. Dips: Maximum in one minute |
B.) All Skills must be used for each Nova Fitness division.
C.) The order and placement may be changed before each event. There are many safety factors included in the placement of the stations.
D.) There may be one or two lanes for each competition.
Skill Description:
1.) Standing Long Jump - The first station will consist of the standing long jump. There will be a line on the floor to mark the starting location. There will also be two lines, 36 inches apart, running down both sides of the jumping lane. The athlete will stand with both feet touching the line with the toes. When the whistle blows, the athlete will jump out directly in front as far as possible. Both feet must leave the ground at the same time. The athlete may swing his/her arms for momentum. The athlete must remain inside the jumping lane for a "good jump". After landing, the athlete must remain standing where he/she lands. A measurement will be taken from the starting line to the heel of the back foot. The athlete will get 3 attempts within the one minute time limit and the best jump will count as their score.
2.) Pull-ups- The second station consists of a pull-up bar. The athlete will grab the bar overhead with a reverse grip. The grip will be shoulder width apart. The athlete may stand on a box to get a correct grip. The judge at this station will help place the hands in the proper position if necessary. The athlete will begin in a full stretched out position. The feet must cross over each other to keep the legs from swinging apart. The athlete must touch his/her chin to the bar and must come back down into a full stretch at the bottom. There must be full extension at the elbows. If the chin does not touch the bar and there is not a full stretch at the bottom, that repetition will not count.
3.) Push-ups- The third station will consist of push-ups. The palms of the hands must be placed on the floor. As the arms bend, the elbows must be away from the body and not support the body at any time. A repetition will be deemed complete when the upper arm and the forearm form a right angle at the elbow. The toes and hands are the only body parts allowed to touch the floor. If knees, hips or any other body part touches during the one minute time frame the athlete must stop reps and the last rep will not count.
4.) Sit-ups- The fourth station will consist of sit-ups. The athlete will lie on his/her back with both feet flat on the ground. The knees will be bent. The athlete will place both hands over the ears. The judge will sit on the ground over the feet and hold the athletes ankles from behind. The athlete will raise up and touch both elbows to the knees and then go back down, touching both shoulder blades to the ground. If the hands come off the ears, the elbows do not touch the knees or both shoulder blades do not touch the ground the repetition will not be counted.
5.) Box Step- The fifth station will consist of a box step. The box or step will be no more than 14 inches high. The athlete will begin with both feet in front of the box. At the sound of the whistle, the athlete will begin with one foot and step up on to the box, followed by the second foot. Both feet must be in contact with a mark on top of the box before the lead leg can commence descent to the ground. And both feet must be in contact with the ground before the lead leg can commence back up to the box. The mark will be about 12 inches from the front of the step so both heels should be completely on the box. The lead leg may be alternated at any time and the arms may be swung to assist the stepping movement. One foot must be in contact with either the floor or box at all times.
6.) Dips- The sixth station will consist of dips. The dip bar used will have an angle varying from 18-30 inches apart. The athlete will be positioned between the bars where his/her elbows will come near their sides when dipping. The athlete will start in full extension. When the time begins, the athlete will lower his/her self down past the bars until both elbows break a right angle. The athlete must keep both feet crossed at all times. If the feet or any part of the athlete touches the ground at any time, the athlete must stop reps and the last rep will not count.
7.) Jump Rope- The seventh station will be jump rope. There will be a set of jump ropes for the athlete to choose from. The athlete must choose the rope within the one minute rest period before the event begins. The station will be on top of an 8'x4' piece of smooth plywood. The event will begin with the rope resting of the ground behind the athlete. When the time begins, the athlete will rotate the rope toward the front and around the body for as many rotations as possible during the time allowed. A complete revolution will only be when the rope hits the floor in front of the athlete.
8.) Shuttle Run- The eigth and final station will be the shuttle run. The shuttle run will consist of 40 yards in length. There will be three lines, one at the beginning, one at 15 feet and one at 30 feet. The athlete will begin the shuttle from the start line, run to the 15 foot mark, touch the line and run back to the start line touching the line. The athlete will turn and run to the 30 foot mark, touch the line and run back to the start line touching the line. The athlete will turn and run to the 15 foot mark, touch the line, run back to the start line touching the line to stop the clock. The time is not stopped until the last line is touched. The total distance will be 120 feet (40 yards).
Regulations:
1.) Each athlete will begin at station one and continue through each station until completed.
2.) Each station will be timed for one minute.
3.) There will be a one (1) minute rest period between each station.
4.) Each athlete will carry a score card and give to the judge at each station.
5.) The judge at the last station will collect all scores cards to be turned in to the official scorer.
6.) The total time allotted to complete the entire course is 11-15 minutes.
Skill Scoring:
1.) Standing Long Jump- Each jump will be measured in inches. Only the last inch on the measuring tape that is past is counted. (example: a jump of 72 ¼ inches will count as 72 inches). Athletes get 3 attempts within the one-minute time frame for their best jump and only the best jump will count toward the final score.
2.) Pull-ups- The total number of properly done pull-ups in a one-minute time frame will be counted toward the final score.
3.) Push-ups- The total number of properly done push-ups in a one-minute time frame will be counted toward the final score.
4. Sit-ups- The total number of properly done sit-ups in a one-minute time frame will be counted toward the final score.
5. Box Step- The total number of properly done step-ups in a one-minute time frame will be counted toward the final score.
6. Dips- The total number of properly done dips in a one minute time frame will be counted toward the final score.
7. Jump Rope- The total number of properly done rotations hitting the ground in front of the athlete will be counted toward the final score.
6. Shuttle Run- The scoring for the run has been broken down into 1/10 ths of seconds. Each tenth of second faster is counted as two points. The formula used is: a.) subtract the time from 100. b.) multiple times 20. c.) subtract from 1500. The score will then be raised or lowered to the nearest full point..
